CEMBUREAU, the European Cement Association, is holding a half-day conference on the morning of 16th October at TownHall Europe, in Brussels. Following the success of its previous annual conferences, and as a new EU political cycle starts, this event aims to focus on bringing industrial decarbonisation forward.
The conference will provide a platform for EU policy makers and stakeholders to exchange ideas on the key policies and approach to fast forward decarbonisation investments in Europe’s industries.
In the wake of the 2024 European election, calls have multiplied to highlight the need for an EU industrial policy alongside the Green Deal. Back in July, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the introduction a new “Clean Industrial Deal” within the first 100 days of her mandate. Mario Draghi just delivered a key report on the future of European competitiveness with far-reaching recommendations. As the next College of Commissioners is being formed, the decarbonisation of industrial sectors, as well as industrial competitiveness, are likely to top the European agenda for the months to come.
As the European cement industry, we have published our updated Net Zero Roadmap in May 2024. CEMBUREAU’s Net Zero Roadmap looks at an increased ambition for the decarbonisation of the EU cement industry, in light of ongoing investments. It also sets out the indispensable policies to achieve this ambition.
This year’s event will focus on bringing industrial decarbonisation forward – what should EU industrial policy look like? Where should it sit in the upcoming Commission’s agenda? How does it fit with the Green Deal? What actions are needed to bring forward industrial decarbonisation investments at EU and national level? What are the concrete obstacles to such investments? How can we foster cooperation throughout the value chain to facilitate decarbonisation?
The event is planned to take place at TownHall Europe, in Brussels, in a hybrid format for attendees.
